So many people these days are hung up on "Tea Cup" or "T-Cup" Chihuahuas
(or Yorkies or Poodles or Poms...... the breed list goes on I'm sure).
Alot of breeders also market their dogs as "t-cups" and ask a couple
hundred dollars more for these pups.
The truth about t-cups is: T-cup is only a "cutsey" term applied
to a small dog. It originated from the fact that small dogs are able to fit in tea cups. There
is no separate breed of Chihuahua called a T-cup Chihuahua.
Any reputable kennel club recognizes only TWO varieties
of Chihuahua; the SHORT-COAT and the LONG-COAT. Breed standard states that Chihuahuas of either variety are to be between
1 and 6 pounds.
So whether your dog is a 1 pound Chi or a 6 pound Chi (or more
for those spoiled Chis) your dog is just a Chihuahua.
There are also no "Standard Chihuahuas" as I once heard a person
say as she was making reference to her 12 pound Chihuahuas. These are just dogs who's breeder deviated greatly from the breed
standard and is producing a substandard dog.
Beware of the "size matters" breeders of any breed, not just Chihuahuas.
They are more concerned with the size of their pups than the health and betterment of the breed. Small dogs are strickly a
man made animal. Because of this, toy dogs have a whole lot of problems that larger dogs generally avoid. The EXTRA small
dogs (such as the so called "t-cups") are at greater risk for all problems that toy breeds face.
